Sept 3, Attended the annual Art in the Desert at Bend in the Old Mill District situated on the banks of the Deschutes festival. There were 110 tents but it was so cold! One glass lady had on her snow boots to stay warm in her booth. Lots of cool items for sale. Hope to make it to the Pearl District in Portland for this weekend’s art show but not sure I’m going.

Suncatcher Studio Artist Reception

July 17 Attended the artist receptions at the Suncatcher studio in Milton-Freewater and also brough in some additional pieces for the front of the store and for my section.

Posted an abstract and flower piece on my home page.

July 1, 2010 The refrigerator magnets that I made are nice small gifts. Fern, lavender, and flower pictures are forthcoming from the kilns so I’m making lots of new stuff as well as updated my link page.

Small pieces

May 28, 2010 Took 24 small pieces with magnets to the Pendleton Arts Center for sale today. Will make a few larger pieces this weekend to take next week for sale.

The pictures on this website will be updated in another week or so which will be great!!

New link to Allied Arts

Feb. 15, 2010

This webpage is now linked to the Allied Arts Gallery in Richland, WA. Need to get some of my work into the gallery for display soon!

New kiln and getting ready for a show

Jan. 30, 2010 The new larger kiln arrived so I’m making three items for the Allied Arts show due Feb. 20 so that is keeping me busy the new few weekends. The first item is leaves in a frame, the second is a 3D quilt, and the third fused glass is still in the thinking stage.  See the next work at Allied Arts Gallery in Richland, WA.

Recycling painted wine bottles into cheese trays

Jan. 20, 2010

Looking for bottles with painting on them i.e. Pendleton Whiskey, Kessler wine bottles, to recycle into  cheese trays since the painting holds up through the kiln slumping. These types of bottles are generally the more expensive wines and liquors so I’m hoping to find more of them to make for the CBC scholarship auction in March.

The Funky Bend

Sept. 18 This week I headed out to the welding shop to have a stainless steel mold made for the glass competition. We tracked down a small scrap of metal in the machine shop and I asked him to bend it and give it a funky touch. He bent up the metal piece several times with a big press and I took it home to try in the kiln. I had put some glass pieces together and they didn’t fuse the way that I had anticipated so there were some holes in the sheet. I slumped the glass on the funky mold and it’s well- a sculpture that stands on its own-hence named the funky bend. It’s top secret until the competition so no picture included this week.

Diversity-we are all different

Well-I need to create six new items for Bullseye glass competition so I’ve started. Generally, the wilder the better so I gave it a try with a plate titled “Diversity” since it reminds me that everyone is unique with different physical and mental attributes and talents. I had fun thinking about all the piercings, tatoos, and leather clothing, including chains, and colored hair, purple, pink, green, etc.  that I’ve encountered in my years of teaching at a college. I understand it’s about expression, but I don’t think it would go over well if I showed up with all of the above. But, still it would be fun for a day or so. Until next week where I’m headed out to the welding shop.

Night at the Gallery-the final judging.

Sept. 4 Well-no red, blue, or white ribbons on either of my vases or bowl which was made from the recyle plate. But, there was a good turn out for the exhibits which consisted of mostly paintings, some glass work, fabric design, and a few clay sculptures which took the ribbons in the scultpture category. The food disappeared fast as everyone walked around eating, looking, and voting for the people’s choice award. This gallery in Baker City Oregon came up with an awesome idea to display donor names, who contributed $500, of fused glass tiles with letters on them. A lady in her eighties created many different tiles that donors can choose from, about 8 or 9″ squares with different colorful designs mounted on a  glass partition. Well-my vases and glass bowl are for sale in the gallery during the month of September.

It’s time to start making items for the Bullseye glass competition in Portland in early December!
